Water Damage Restoration Steps

1 Assessment

The restoration team assesses the extent of the water damage, identifying affected areas and determining the source of the water intrusion, whether it's from a burst pipe, flooding, or other sources.

2 Water Extraction

Using pumps and vacuums, the restoration team removes standing water from the property. This step is crucial for preventing further damage and mold growth.

3 Dehumidification & Drying

After water extraction, the drying process begins. Industrial-grade dehumidifiers and high-powered fans are used to dry out the affected areas, including walls, floors, and furniture. Moisture meters are employed to monitor moisture levels and ensure thorough drying.

4 Cleaning & Sanitizing

Once the affected areas are dry, the restoration team cleans and sanitizes surfaces to remove any remaining contaminants and inhibit mold growth. This may involve using antimicrobial agents and specialized cleaning techniques.

How to check for water damage in your home?

flood water cleanup

By addressing these areas regularly, you can catch water damage early and prevent larger, costlier repairs.

Inspect Walls and Ceilings: Look for discoloration, stains, or bubbling paint, which can indicate water intrusion. Peeling wallpaper or warped surfaces are also signs of damage.
Check Floors: Warped or buckling floors, especially hardwood, can signal water seepage. Carpets may feel damp or smell musty if there's hidden moisture.
Examine Windows and Doors: Look for signs of condensation or moisture buildup around frames, as this could point to leaks or poor sealing.
Inspect the Attic and Roof: Look for any water stains or mold in the attic, and check the roof for missing shingles, cracked flashing, or clogged gutters that could allow water to enter.
Monitor the Basement and Foundation: Check for pooling water, dampness, or visible cracks in the foundation walls, which may indicate poor drainage or seepage.
Smell for Musty Odors: A persistent musty smell in certain areas can suggest mold or mildew caused by ongoing water issues.
Test Water Fixtures and Appliances: Check for leaks under sinks, around toilets, and behind washing machines, dishwashers, and water heaters.

How to check for Mold in your home?

Mold Inspection and Mold Removal are complicated tasks, requiring special skills and State certifications to be performed in safe and efficient way.  However, as a homeowner you can still identify mold at home or your business by watching out for the following signs:

Visible Mold: Black, green, or white spots, often fuzzy or slimy, on walls, ceilings, or furniture.
Musty Odor: Persistent earthy smell, especially in enclosed spaces.
Water Damage: Stains, discoloration, or peeling paint after leaks or moisture exposure.
Allergy Symptoms: Increased sneezing, coughing, or asthma symptoms at home.
Condensation: Excess moisture on windows, walls, or around pipes.
Hidden Mold: Check behind wallpaper, under carpets, and in HVAC systems for musty smells or damp spots.
Warped Materials: Buckling wood or warped walls from past water damage.
Leaky Areas: Mold often grows near roof or plumbing leaks.
High Humidity: Keep indoor humidity below 60% to prevent mold growth.
