If you're reading this review because you are in the same shoes, and wondering what to do next, just do yourself a favor and place a call to Daniel from RescueDry. He is your man. We are so glad we found him, and couldn't be happier with the quality of work done and the attention to all of our concerns. He gave us a very fair quote, assured us he would be on hand to supervise all of the work throughout the process, and followed up after completion to ensure the humidity levels were down and nothing was missed. The project was done on time with no extra surprises. Shortly after he did all of our work, a completely unrelated issue arose where our water line to our refrigerator had a pinhole leak, which caused some mold to grow behind. He came over and handled for us, and tied up some other work that needed to be done. I can't recommend him enough. True 5 stars.Posted on marc siegelNovember 18, 2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Great experience! Odor Inspection and Removal

What is causing Odor?
Odors in the home can be caused by a variety of sources, often indicating underlying issues. Common causes include:
Mold and Mildew: Excess moisture or water damage can lead to mold growth, which produces a musty, unpleasant odor.
Pet Odors: Pets can leave behind smells from dander, urine, or accidents that seep into carpets, furniture, and flooring.
Cooking Residue: Strong food smells, especially from fried or spicy dishes, can linger in the air and absorb into fabrics and surfaces.
Plumbing Issues: Leaks or clogs in pipes can create damp environments that lead to bad odors, or sewage backups can result in a foul smell.
Dirty HVAC Systems: Dust, mold, and bacteria can accumulate in air ducts and vents, spreading unpleasant odors throughout the home.
Trash and Food Waste: Garbage that’s left too long or organic waste in trash bins can start to smell and attract pests.
Cigarette Smoke: Smoke can permeate walls, furniture, and fabrics, leaving a lasting odor in rooms.
Poor Ventilation: A lack of airflow can trap odors and make them more noticeable, especially in bathrooms, kitchens, or basements.
Identifying and addressing the source of the odor is key to effectively eliminating it.

How to detect the source of odor?
Detecting odors in your home involves a combination of observation, tools, and techniques to identify the source and severity of the smell. Here's how to detect odors effectively:
Follow Your Nose: Walk through your home and note where the odor is strongest. Pay attention to specific rooms or areas where the smell intensifies.
Inspect Common Problem Areas: Check moisture-prone places like the basement, bathroom, kitchen, or laundry room for mold, mildew, or water damage. Don’t forget hard-to-reach spots like under sinks, behind appliances, or inside closets.
Use a Moisture Meter: If you suspect water damage or mold, use a moisture meter to test walls, floors, and ceilings for hidden moisture, which could be harboring mold growth.
Check Ventilation and HVAC Systems: Odors can spread through air vents or ducts. Inspect air filters, ducts, and vents for dust, debris, or mold that might be circulating the smell.
Use Ultraviolet (UV) Light: A UV light can help detect hidden stains, such as pet urine or mold, that may be causing lingering odors.
Note Timing of Odor: If an odor comes and goes, it might be tied to specific activities, like cooking or using a bathroom. Seasonal changes could also affect smells related to humidity or heating systems.
Listen for Unusual Noises: Strange sounds like dripping or gurgling could indicate plumbing leaks, which may lead to unpleasant smells.
Consult a Professional: If you're unable to identify the source, RescueDry provides a professional odor inspection service with the use of specialized equipment and expertise to detect and eliminate the issue.
By systematically exploring these potential sources, you can narrow down and resolve the odor problem.

Odor Removal Tools
Ozone Generators: Ozone generators create ozone (O3) molecules that neutralize odor-causing bacteria and pollutants. This is commonly used for tough odors like smoke or pet smells.
Hydroxyl Generators: These machines produce hydroxyl radicals that naturally break down odors, mold, and chemicals in the air, making them safer for use in occupied spaces compared to ozone.
Air Scrubbers: Equipped with HEPA filters and activated carbon, air scrubbers remove airborne particles, dust, mold spores, and odors by filtering the air in the space.
Dehumidifiers: By reducing excess moisture, dehumidifiers help prevent mold and mildew, which can cause musty odors.
Foggers: Used to distribute odor-neutralizing or disinfecting chemicals into the air, foggers help eliminate odors that are deeply embedded in fabrics or surfaces.
Activated Carbon Filters: These filters absorb VOCs, smoke, pet odors, and other airborne chemicals, improving air quality and eliminating smells.
Enzymatic Cleaners: These cleaners break down organic matter (such as pet urine) at a molecular level, neutralizing the source of the odor.
HEPA Vacuum Cleaners: HEPA vacuums effectively remove dust, mold, and other particles from carpets and surfaces, preventing odors from lingering.
Most sprays and cleaners only mask odors for a few hours—they don’t fix the root cause. Professional odor remediation gets to the source, whether it’s pet accidents in carpet padding, smoke particles in walls, or mold hidden behind drywall. Our team uses HEPA filtration and specialized treatments to permanently remove odors, not just cover them up.
We handle a wide range of odor issues, including pet urine, cigarette or fire smoke, mold and mildew, cooking odors, and sewage backups. Each situation requires a different approach, and our technicians are trained to identify and eliminate the specific source so your indoor air is safe and fresh again.
Our inspection process includes moisture mapping, surface checks, and air quality testing if needed. Many times, the source is hidden—like in HVAC systems, crawl spaces, or carpet padding. By pinpointing the exact cause, we make sure the odor is eliminated and doesn’t come back.
Yes. We use environmentally responsible products and HEPA-filtered equipment to treat odors safely. Our process is designed to improve indoor air quality without harsh chemicals, so your home or business is safe for children, pets, and anyone with sensitivities.
It depends on the source and severity. Some odors can be neutralized in a single visit, while deeper issues—like smoke or heavy pet odor—may require multiple treatments over several days. Either way, our team gives you a clear plan and timeline so you know what to expect.
Persistent odors come from tiny molecules that get trapped in porous materials like cloth, drywall, wood, or insulation. Common sources include pet accidents, smoke, mold, cooking odors, and organic decay. These molecules can be hard to wash out. High humidity and low ventilation can make them linger and prevent natural dissipation. Different smells need different removal methods. It’s crucial to identify the source of the odor.
Real Results: A study on commercial buildings found that 78% of lasting indoor odors came from trapped pet urine or cigarette smoke in carpets or the floor below. These odors needed special enzyme and oxidation treatments to be removed.
Takeaway: It is not just a 'smell,' but really small molecules that make up persistent odors. You need specific ways to break them down.
Frequent cleaning only masks the odor instead of removing the deep-seated molecules. These molecules sit too deep for regular cleaners to reach. As the gas fades, the smell returns. Special techniques are needed to fully eliminate them. This process goes beyond the surface, neutralizing and destroying the molecules. Unlike home cleaning, professional services clean deeply into your clothes.
Real Results: A homeowner cleaned for weeks after a kitchen fire using household products. However, the smoke smell returned. Thermal fogging and hydroxyl treatment removed 99% of the deep smoke odor in just 48 hours.
Takeaway: Deep odours can't be cleaned with surface cleaning. Your treatment needs to be more extensive and professional.
Finding the source of a persistent odor is a systematic process. Start by carefully inspecting and using your nose. Smell in areas from the strongest to the weakest. Common spots to check include carpets, furniture, basements, attics, and cabinets. Look for stains, moisture, mold, or pet hair. Think about recent spills or water damage. Pros sometimes use tools like moisture meters, UV lights, or thermal cameras. These help them find hidden sources. A correct diagnosis is the first step to a good fix
Real Results: The family didn't notice a damp smell. A professional moisture meter found a leak behind the wall before it caused more damage or spread the odor
Takeaway: Smell and look closely. If the source cannot be found, professional diagnostic equipment should be used.
The most common professional services are ozone treatment, hydroxyl generators, thermal fogging, and enzyme or antimicrobial cleaners. Ozone (O3) gas oxidizes odor molecules. Hydroxyl generators create free radicals that safely neutralize odors in occupied spaces. Thermal fogging sprays a fine mist into porous materials to trap odor molecules. Enzyme cleaners eliminate organic odors, while antimicrobial sprays fight mold or bacteria smells. The method chosen depends on the odor type and treatment area.
Real Results: After a commercial building flooded, hydroxyl generators and antimicrobial sprays cut the musty odors by more than 90% in just a week.
Takeaway: Professional odor removal is not a one-size-fits-all process, but rather a specialized and sophisticated approach.
Ozone generators produce ozone (O3), a reactive gas that destroys odor molecules. Ozone doesn't just mask odors like air fresheners do. It reacts with and neutralizes volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that cause smells. This helps eliminate odors like smoke, pet smells, and mildew (from surfaces and air). Because ozone is strong, people must leave the room during treatment and ventilate afterward to clear any leftover gas. Ozone offers a powerful, lasting solution for tough odors.
Real Results: One car dealership had vehicles that smelled like smoke. They used a 24-hour ozone treatment. This completely removed the odor and boosted each car's resale value by about $1,500.
Takeaway: Ozone targets odor molecules, providing an effective and long-lasting solution for stubborn odors.
Imagine walking into your home and being greeted by a strange smell.
We’ve all experienced it: the ghost of a past tenant’s cooking, a hidden pet accident, or the musty scent of dampness. It’s more than irritating; it can make your home feel unwelcoming and even unhealthy. Air fresheners and DIY cleaners offer short-term relief but often just mask the problem. It’s like covering a broken bone with a bandage—the real issue stays hidden. True odor removal goes deeper than surface cleaning. It involves understanding the science behind smells. This guide is for those who have battled stubborn odors and are ready to win. We’ll look at why some smells stick, the services available to fight them, and when to call for help. Your journey to a genuinely fresh-smelling home starts here.
